Weather center - Station equipment

Davis Vantage Pro 2

• The weather station in use here is the Davis Vantage Pro 2+ (6162au).

The station consists of a main console, and a ISS unit, which consists of rain gauge, temperature/humidity sensor (inside a radiation screen), and a anemometer, which is powered via a solar panel that charges a capacitor for overnight power.

• This 6162au model operates on the 915 to 928MHz, as the USA version (902 to 928MHz) utilises frequencies licensed to the Vodafone network. The EU and UK version operates at a slightly lower frequency that is licensed to Telstra. This special Australian version is only available via an "Exclusive Distributor" (or their resellers), at an expected premium prices.

Oregon Scientific WMR-918N

• The weather station previously in use here was Oregon Scientific WMR-918N.

The station consists of a main console, a internal temperature/humidity/barometer unit, a rain gauge, outdoor temperature/humidity sensor (inside a home made Stevenson Screen), and a anemometer. The 3 outside sensors are powered via a solar panel with rechargeable batteries for overnight power.

• This WMR-918N model operates on the 433MHz.

• As this stations outside temperature sensor is exposed to direct sunlight, it was decided to build my own Stevenson Screen to increase the accuracy of the temperature readings.
